Traffic delays expected during work on 82 miles of SLO County roadways
Traffic delays are expected on some roads throughout San Luis Obispo County during part of March and April as the county’s public works department starts installing rumble strips at the center of about 82 miles of roadways.
Construction is expected to start Monday and wrap up by April 21, according to a news release from the county. The center-line rumble strips are intended to warn drivers who may have crossed over the center of the roadway. The strips have been shown to reduce the number of head-on and sideswipe collisions, county officials said.
At least one lane of traffic will be open during the work, though delays of about 15 minutes are possible. Work on each road should take about a week.
Construction is expected to start first on Foothill Boulevard, from Los Osos Valley Road to the San Luis Obispo city limits.
Other roadwork will be done on portions of 15 roadways, in this order: Los Osos Valley Road, South Bay Boulevard, Turri Road, Old Creek Road, Union Road, Nacimiento Lake Drive, Pozo Road, Avila Beach Drive, San Luis Bay Drive, Price Canyon Road, Huasna Road, Lopez Drive, Los Berros Road, Thompson Avenue and Division Street.
The $646,934 project is being funded by a Federal Highway Administration grant from the Highway Safety Improvement Program, with assistance from Caltrans and the San Luis Obispo Council of Governments. The grant enables the construction on 82 miles of the county’s 1,000-mile paved road system.
