Golden State Water Co. offers free leak-fixing kits to customers

Golden State Water Co. is offering free “Fix A Leak” kits to customers this week as part of the eighth annual national Fix a Leak Week campaign.

Golden State, which serves Los Osos and Edna Valley locally, is partnering with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency to raise awareness and help customers improve their water use efficiency.

Water leaks account for more than 1 trillion gallons of water wasted each year in U.S. homes, according to the EPA. The average household loses about 10,000 gallons of water annually because of leaks.

Golden State Water’s local offices supply leak kits that contain dye tablets, hose washers, a drip measuring vial and instructions. High-efficiency showerheads and aerators are also available for pickup in limited supply, or they can be ordered online at www.gswatersavers.com.

“Our free Fix A Leak kits are easy to use, and we also encourage customers to check their water meter before and after a 15-minute period when no water is being used,” said Edwin DeLeon, Golden State’s water use efficiency manager. “If the two readings are not identical, there is a good chance (customers) have a leak at their home.”
