A Cal Poly graduate making a career for himself as an environmental rapper has released a new album.

Brett Edwards, also known as Mr. Eco, has just come out with “Renewable Rap,” which he will perform at local schools around San Luis Obispo County in April and May. He is seeking donations for the new album via the fundraising site Kickstarter.

Edwards described his musical alter-ego, Mr. Eco, as a “rap superhero that empowers youth to become EcoHeroes.”

“Renewable Rap” incorporates collaborations with kids from seven countries. Mr. Eco has performed at more than 250 events nationwide, mainly at elementary schools.

Edwards, who now lives in Venice, also is working toward a pilot program with a solar company for this spring and on creating a kids television show. His YouTube videos have attracted more than 620,000 views.

“My goal is to create a superhero that far outlives me as a person and stands for youth environmentalism globally,” Edwards said.
