The Morro Bay City Council will hear an update from staff at its regular meeting Tuesday on the latest review of wastewater treatment and water reclamation sites in the Morro Valley. Public input is welcome.

The city is continuing to research opportunities at its two main preferred parcels — Rancho Colina and Righetti Ranch. Both are in the Morro Valley along the Highway 41 corridor.

A neighborhood meeting was held Feb. 25 regarding the Righetti Ranch site, where the public expressed concerns about potential impacts to the nearby residences, including odor, noise, views and traffic.

The city’s staff began additional review of the Righetti Ranch site late last year when conditions governing use of the land at Rancho Colina, its initial preferred site, changed during negotiations with the property owner. The owner prefers the city to build on a plot different than acreage originally identified that’s likely more expensive and presents visibility concerns along the Highway 41 corridor.

The city’s Water Reclamation Facility Citizen Advisory Committee recommended further public outreach on the sites and to reconsider two additional sites, Chevron/Toro and Tri-W properties.

The City Council will be asked for direction at the March 8 meeting.
