Prescribed burn planned Friday at Oceano Dunes

The California Department of Parks and Recreation is planning a pre-emptive burn Friday morning to clear brush and other potential fuel for wildfires at the Pismo State Beach Grand Dune Trail and Oceano Campground.

The burn, which is being carried out with the cooperation of Cal Fire and the San Luis Obispo County Air Pollution Control District, will target collected piles of nonnative and dead or diseased vegetation to both reduce fuel load as well as restore coastal dune scrub habitat, State Parks said in a news release.

The operation is dependent on weather conditions and may be postponed.
