Prescribed burn to target dead pines in Morro Bay
The Morro Bay Fire Department will perform a prescribed burn of diseased, dead and downed Monterey pines in the Black Hill area of Morro Bay State Park from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Wednesday.
The burn project will target the west side of Black Hill, according to a city news release, and may require additional days depending on weather conditions.
The operation will remove potential fuel for fires that present a threat to numerous residences and businesses in Morro Bay, the city said. Firefighters will conduct the burns in conjunction with the California State Parks and the San Luis Obispo County Air Pollution Control District. Planning for the event occurred last month with the help of the California Air Resources Board.
The Fire Department plans to post updates throughout the day on its Facebook and Twitter pages.
