Morro Bay joins renewable energy program to aid property owners

The Morro Bay City Council has authorized participation in California’s HERO Property Assessed Clean Energy program, which enables property owners to finance permanently fixed energy and water conservation improvements.

The program allows property owners to install renewable energy systems, water efficiency improvements and electric vehicle charging stations and pay for them over time through their property tax bill.

HERO, a private enterprise operated by the company Renovate America, has helped finance residential efficiency projects in more than 54,000 households in California, and Morro Bay joins San Luis Obispo as well as the county of San Luis Obispo in its participation.

In all, 381 California communities have joined the program.

HERO provides the entire cash outlay upfront for the home improvement, allowing the homeowner to spread out the costs, through its partnership with local government agencies. The products installed must meet federal and state efficiency standards.
