Vintages magazine, the leading wine publication on California’s Central Coast, has won a President’s Award from McClatchy Co. — one of 10 nationwide honoring the best content in the company’s specialty publications and community news division. McClatchy owns The Tribune and 28 other daily newspapers.

In announcing the award, judges praised the twice-yearly magazine, citing its local perspectives on emerging trends, artisanal food producers and useful maps and information on more than 200 regional wineries. Along with the other publications honored across the country, Vintages features “stunning photography and captivating articles that are a proven hit with both readers and advertisers,’’ the judges noted.

An estimated 125,000 copies of the 100-page magazine are distributed each spring and fall in San Luis Obispo, Santa Barbara and Fresno counties. The next issue will be published March 12.

“Vintages is a wonderful celebration of the Central Coast terroir, and it’s gratifying that we were recognized for this magazine that truly showcases our region,” said Devon Goetz, The Tribune’s general manager and vice president of human resources. “I’m very proud of our employees and contributors who have made Vintages such a useful resource to locals and visitors alike.”

The magazine has profiled up-and-coming winemakers, showcased vintners’ efforts to extend their reach through hard cider, beer and liquor, and featured other emerging trends such as the growth of the county’s craft beer movement.
