Morro Bay holding forum on where to build its sewage plant

The city of Morro Bay will hold a public workshop Thursday, Feb. 25, to provide an update on where it may build a sewage treatment plant and reclamation facility.

The forum will be from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at Morro Bay Community Center’s multipurpose room at 1001 Kennedy Way in Morro Bay.

The city has shifted its focus for the project to the Righetti Ranch site along Highway 41 in the Morro Valley.

The City Council previously identified the neighboring Rancho Colina on Highway 41 as its preferred location. But in recent weeks, negotiations between the city and owner Steve Macelvaine have broken down over the question of where on the property the plant might be located. City officials have said that building the plant on the Righetti Ranch property might be more cost effective, because it’s at a lower elevation and closer to the city limits.

City officials are inviting neighbors of the Righetti Ranch to offer their perspectives on that location and to hear more about the proposal and the project’s objectives.
