Goodwill Central Coast is working with United Way of San Luis Obispo County to provide free tax filing services to their employees and San Luis Obispo County residents.

The organizations will walk families through the tax-filing process to make sure they’re filing properly and getting the correct tax reductions and refunds, according to a news release from Goodwill Central Coast.

Preparation assistance is available in Goodwill’s career centers in Monterey, Santa Cruz and San Luis Obispo counties.

Individuals and families with household incomes of less than $62,000 in 2015 are eligible to receive free federal and state tax preparation and filing assistance through MyFreeTaxes.com.

The Volunteer Income Tax Assistance program offers free tax help to people who generally make $54,000 or less, persons with disabilities, the elderly, and limited English speaking taxpayers who need assistance in preparing their own tax returns, according to Goodwill.

And some individuals may qualify for the new California Earned Income Tax Credit. Those who earned less than $52,437 may qualify.

For more information on qualification requiements or to make an appointment, call 2-1-1 to find the closest volunteer location. For more information about Goodwill Central Coast, go to ccgoodwill.org.
