Morro Bay police confirmed Wednesday that a body found early Sunday morning in the Morro Bay Estuary is that of missing 22-year-old Avery Edward Danley.

The Morro Bay Police Department said in a news release Wednesday that their investigation has not revealed any signs of criminal wrongdoing, though it noted that the case remains open and the investigation ongoing.

Danley’s body was found by a citizen in the back bay near Los Osos at about 11 a.m. Sunday.

Danley lived alone aboard a boat anchored in the Morro Bay Harbor for the past year, his family told The Tribune.

He was last seen in the early evening of Jan. 21 after dining with friends. The kayak that he used to travel between his boat and shore was found adrift in the harbor a few days following his disappearance.

Danley, originally from Turlock, “fell in love with Morro Bay” and wanted to continue living there, his mother said previously. She bought the boat for him after seeing it posted for sale on Craigslist.
