Small earthquake reported east of Atascadero

A magnitude-3.8 earthquake rattled an area east of Atascadero on Sunday night.

The quake was reported at 10:20 p.m., according to the U.S. Geological Survey website. The epicenter was about 8 miles north of Simmler, which is just north of California Valley along Highway 58 and about 41 miles southeast of Paso Robles.

Many people reported feeling the quake, including 13 from Atascadero, three from Santa Margarita and three from San Luis Obispo, according to the USGS. All described it as “weak.”
