SLO County History Museum celebrates 60 years
The San Luis Obispo County History Museum will mark its 60th anniversary on Feb. 26.
In celebration, the History Center of San Luis Obispo County, which operates the museum in the historic Carnegie Library building in downtown San Luis Obispo, is opening a new exhibition this month featuring photographs and relics from its past.
The exhibition, which officially opens Friday during Art After Dark, will remain on display through February.
In addition, the History Center is launching a year-long public history project to collect written accounts, oral histories, brochures, photographs, postcards and other items pertaining to the museum’s six-decade history. The nonprofit organization invites all current and past museum employees, volunteers and board members to come in and record their experiences for posterity.
The Art After Dark reception will be held 6 to 9 p.m. Friday at the History Center, 696 Monterey St. in San Luis Obispo.
According to the History Center, the San Luis Obispo County Board of Supervisors is slated to pass a resolution recognizing the museum’s 60th anniversary during its Feb. 9 meeting. San Luis Obispo Mayor Jan Marx and the City Council will issue a similar proclamation Feb. 16, the group said.
