Oceano State Parks holding summer lifeguard tryouts
Correction: The original story listed the date of the tryouts as Feb. 5. The actual date is March 5.
California State Parks will hold its summer lifeguard tryouts for the Oceano Dunes District on March 5.
The competitive swim and qualification appraisal interview for candidates requires potential lifeguards to finish a 1,000-yard ocean swim within 20 minutes, and a continuous 200-yard run, 400-yard swim and 200-yard run within 10 minutes, according to a news release. Qualified applicants will then be invited to interview for the next phase of training: an eight-day, 80-hour program offered in May and June that includes first aid, CPR and aquatic lifesaving and search-and-rescue techniques.
The seasonal job pays $15.33 per hour to start.
Tryouts are scheduled for 9 a.m. on March 5 at the Dunes entrance at the end of Grand Avenue in Grover Beach. Picture ID is required. Minors must have a parent or guardian present.
