Atascadero residents can get rid of grass clippings, tree branches and other green waste at a free event Friday.

The drop-off, co-hosted by the city of Atascadero and Waste Management, will be held between 8 a.m. and 2 p.m. Friday, Jan. 29, at the Colony Park Community Center, 5599 Traffic Way in Atascadero.

The event will give residents the opportunity to dispose of green waste as the rain season hits. Green waste includes houseplants, weeds, leaves, twigs and roots, according to city officials.

The idea behind removing green waste is to keep streets clean to prevent flooding and avoid backups on streets and in storm drains.

Green waste generated by businesses won’t be collected at Friday’s event.
