Super Bowl barbecue raises funds for Martin Luther King Jr. High scholarship program
Tickets are on sale for an annual Super Bowl Sunday chicken barbecue that raises money for the Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial High School Scholarship Fund.
Chicken will be served hot off the grill from noon to 3 p.m. Feb. 7 at the Elks Lodge, 222 Elks Lane, in San Luis Obispo. Participants can eat at the lodge or get meals to go, so they can eat while watching the Super Bowl elsewhere.
Since 1968, the scholarship fund has been awarding college scholarships to outstanding teens graduating from high schools in the San Luis Obispo area. The community barbecue at the Elks Lodge is the group’s primary fundraiser. Each $10 ticket buys a meal of barbecue chicken, baked beans, potato salad and garlic bread.
To purchase tickets in advance or to buy blocks of tickets for your organization, call Mary Matakovich at 595-2526. A limited number of tickets will be available at the door. Desserts and other baked goods will also be available for sale at the event.
