Cal Poly offers free tax return assistance

Cal Poly’s Orfalea College of Business is offering free tax return preparation assistance to individuals and families with annual incomes less than $54,000. The Volunteer Income Tax Assistance clinics will be held from 10:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturdays through March 12 on campus.

Cal Poly students will prepare basic forms 1040, 1040A, 1040EZ, 540, 540A, 540EZ and some supporting forms. The program is sanctioned and coordinated by the IRS and California Tax Board.

Cal Poly business faculty and volunteer certified public accountants will review and file the returns.

The tax clinics will be on the third floor of the Cal Poly Business Building. Free parking is available in lots C2 and C7. No appointments are needed, but those interested should arrive before 1 p.m. Participants should bring their Social Security card or Individual Taxpayer Identification Number, 2014 tax returns and all 2015 tax-related documents, including child care expenses and health insurance coverage information.
