Color Blast Fun Run postponed until April
The third annual SLO Color Blast Fun Run, which was scheduled for Saturday at San Luis Obispo High School, has been postponed until April 23 when the rainy season is expected to be over.
The fun run is an annual college scholarship fundraiser with all proceeds benefiting the Alex Cherry Maier Memorial Fund.
The fund was named in memory of Maier, a SLO High senior and varsity soccer player who died Jan. 30, 2013, a few days after he was involved in a car accident while driving home from a soccer game.
Over the past two years, more than 4,000 participants have raised more than $80,000, which has gone toward more than 40 scholarships, according to a news release. The scholarships range from $500 to $2,300 each.
In November, Maier’s sister, Leah Maier, received an Outstanding Youth in Philanthropy award from the Association of Fundraising Professionals for her efforts establishing the fun run at the high school.
