SLO rental inspection program kicks off with public workshops

San Luis Obispo will hold three informational workshops, including one Wednesday evening, for property owners, property managers and tenants to learn more about the city’s rental housing inspection program.

Under the program, single-family and duplex home rentals will be subjected to routine city inspections on a three-year cycle to make sure they conform to health and safety standards. Rental property owners must register their units within 60 days of Jan. 1, or within 30 days from the time a unit is acquired.

The first workshop will be held Wednesday at Ludwick Community Center, 894 Santa Rosa St. The other two workshops, on Feb. 11 and March 4, will be held in the San Luis Obispo City-County Library community center, 995 Palm St. All workshops will run from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.

City staff will answer questions about the registration process and provide information on what the city will look for during inspections. For information, go to www.slocity.org/government/department-directory/community-development/rental-housing-inspection-program.
