A pedestrian was hit by a northbound Amtrak train and killed Saturday night on the railroad tracks south of Tank Farm Road.

San Luis Obispo police and fire responded at about 8:15 p.m. to a report of a man being hit by a train on the tracks at Tank Farm Road. When authorities arrived, however, they found that the victim was about a mile south of that location outside of city limits.

San Luis Obispo County Sheriff’s deputies also arrived on scene and were investigating, Dep. Mark Lewis said at about 10 p.m.

The identity of the victim and details of how the fatality occurred were not immediately available.

The Amtrak train was delayed while the investigation continued.
