San Luis Obispo woman killed in rollover crash on New Year’s Day

Kelly Johnson, 22, of San Luis Obispo, was killed in a rollover vehicle accident in eastern San Luis Obispo County on New Year’s Day.

Johnson was the passenger in a 2005 Nissan Titan pickup driven by Kymberly Sulamo, 44, of San Luis Obispo, which was heading north on Highway 41 at 8:10 a.m. Friday, one mile south of the San Luis Obispo and Kern county lines, according to the CHP. The truck hit a patch of black ice, and Sulamo lost control of the vehicle, the CHP said.

The truck went off the highway and down a steep embankment, rolling multiple times and coming to rest on its wheels in a dirt ravine. Johnson was not wearing her seatbelt and suffered fatal injuries.

Sulamo was taken to Sierra Vista Regional Medical Center in San Luis Obispo with moderate injuries and was later released. Neither drugs nor alcohol are believed to be factors in the accident.
