A controlled burn on Santa Margarita Ranch on Thursday prompted a few calls to Cal Fire from people who saw smoke rising from trees in the hills south of the town.
The ranch has an agricultural burn permit and is burning piles of debris within an area where the Cuesta Fire burned earlier this year, Cal Fire officials said.
The agency started receiving calls about the smoke, which is visible from Highway 101, starting about 8 or 9 a.m. Thursday morning.
