Car engulfed in flames after head-on collision in San Luis Obispo

A car was engulfed in flames after a head-on collision Sunday afternoon near Price Canyon Road in San Luis Obispo.

About 2:53 p.m., an 18-year-old female was driving a Toyota sedan southbound on Hwy. 227 north of Price Canyon Road when she took her eyes off the road, CHP Sgt. Steve Dzida said. Upon realizing that she had drifted to the right of the road, the driver overcorrected to the left and crashed head-on with a Volvo SUV driving northbound.

The Toyota sedan spun around and came to rest on an embankment on the northbound side of the road. The Toyota sedan caught fire and was engulfed in flames, Dzida said. The fire was quickly contained.

The driver of the Volvo SUV was transported to French Hospital Medical Center with minor injuries. The driver of the Toyota sedan reported minor pain and was taken home.

The CHP, Cal Fire and San Luis Ambulance responded to the accident. Estimated costs of damage from the accident were unavailable.
