Pismo man with rare hunger disorder to appear on TV show ‘The Doctors’
A Pismo Beach man with a rare genetic disorder that leaves him uncontrollably hungry will appear on “The Doctors” on Monday.
Tyler Jarvis, 20, has a rare chromosomal disorder known as Prader-Willi syndrome, which compels him to constantly seek food. Jarvis recently pleaded no contest to five misdemeanors —including counts of petty theft, aggravated trespass and attempted trespass — after he entered three different homes last fall, stealing food and other items he would need to live on his own.
Jarvis avoided a felony conviction with the plea deal, which gives him three years of probation if he enrolls in a group home for people with his disorder.
He and his mother, Michelle Christian, will appear on the TV show Monday to discuss his disorder. The episode, which also features musician Cyndi Lauper, will air on KCOY, Channel 12, at 9 a.m.
