Sheriff’s Office seeking bikes, helmets for Christmas giveaway
The San Luis Obispo County Sheriff’s Office is asking residents for donations of new safety helmets and children’s bicycles in any state of repair to give to local children during its annual Christmas Bike Giveaway.
The event will be held at noon Dec. 16 at the Sheriff’s Honor Farm, its low-security housing units where men and women inmates repair, assemble and refurbish donated bikes to gift back to the community.
The Christmas Bike Program, currently in its 26th year, provides high-quality childhood essentials to kids who might otherwise go without as well as a rehabilitative program that promotes collaboration and a positive work ethic for inmates.
Anyone with items to donate are asked to drop them off at any of the Sheriff’s patrol substations as well as the Honor Farm located at the corner of Highway 1 and Kansas Avenue.
Monetary donations can be made by sending a check to Sheriff’s Advisory Foundation, Attn: Bicycle Fund, P.O. Box 3752, San Luis Obispo, CA, 93403.
Anyone who knows of a child in need this holiday season is asked to email Sgt. Denise Armstrong at darmstrong@co.slo.ca.us to request an application. Applications are due Nov. 25.
