Paso Robles woman trapped overnight in vehicle after Highway 101 crash

A Paso Robles woman reported missing by her husband Thursday had spent the night in her wrecked Dodge Avenger after drifting off the road on Highway 101 and crashing down an embankment, coming to rest outside of view from the highway.

The CHP said Polly Sue Manning Manson, 58, was driving northbound on Highway 101 about a quarter-mile south of Highway 46 East when, for reasons still unknown, she drifted off the roadway. The vehicle continued down an embankment and hit a tree.

The CHP said there were no skid marks or visible evidence on the highway to indicate a collision had occurred.

Her husband reported her missing at 4:30 p.m. Thursday.

At about 9:30 a.m. Friday, a Caltrans work crew came across the wreckage and called CHP. Police and Cal Fire crews responded and used the “Jaws of Life” to remove Manson, who suffered major injuries in the crash.

She was taken to Sierra Vista Regional Medical Center in San Luis Obispo and later transferred to Community Regional Medical Center in Fresno, a Sierra Vista spokesman said. Her condition was not immediately known Friday evening.

The CHP said the collision remains under investigation.
