Cuesta College receives designation as ‘military friendly school’

Tribune

For the second year in a row, Cuesta College is designated a Military Friendly School by Victory Media, which provides service members ratings about post-military education and career opportunities.

Institutions qualified for the elite Military Friendly School title by completing a survey covering 10 categories, including military support on campus, graduation and employment outcomes, and military spouse policies.

Cuesta College serves more than 200 veterans annually and has a dedicated Veterans Resource Center on the San Luis Obispo campus, where veterans, reservists, military dependents and prospective students with military experience can learn about available benefits and connect with one another, according to a news release from the community college.

Cuesta College also offers free parking permits to veterans who attend college orientations through the “Mike” program, in honor of former Cuesta College student and Army National Guardsman Mike Mihalakis, who was killed in 2003 while serving in Iraq.
