The public can take part in new Saturday tours of Atascadero’s historic city hall.
Docents from the city and the Atascadero Historical Society will host the free tours during their newest time slot: 1 to 4 p.m. on Saturdays. Docents will take groups through the rotunda-topped structure originally built in 1918.
The building, inspired by the 1904 World’s Fair, has a rich history. It served as a college dorm for three different private schools, had a basement shooting range for the Sheriff’s Office and once served as a post office, among other uses.
Historic City Hall Tours are also offered on Wednesdays from noon to 2 p.m. and on Fridays from 1 to 4 p.m. Private tours can also be booked with the historical society. Special evening tours from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. will begin Dec. 4 for Atascadero’s annual Holiday Lighting Ceremony at the Sunken Gardens.
