Highway 1 repairs near Piedras Blancas underway

Emergency work on Highway 1 north of the Piedras Blancas Lighthouse is underway to repair rock slopes damaged in a recent storm.

Construction will be ongoing from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday on several sections of the highway and adjacent bluffs eroded due to a recent wave surge, Caltrans said in a news release Thursday.

Motorists can expect 5- to 10-minute delays in sections where work crews close one lane of the highway. Electronic message boards will be in place to inform motorists of the project.

The repair work is expected to be complete by the end of the year.
