SLO County's child support services ranked No. 1 in California
San Luis Obispo County has the top child support services agency in the state, according to the California Department of Child Support Services.
The ranking came last week in a report to the California Legislature. This is the ninth consecutive year the department has achieved the top ranking among 51 such agencies on the state.
Ranking is based on the overall performance in five federal performance measures including the percentage of paternity establishment, percentage of cases with a child support order, rate of current collections, percentage of collections of payments in arrears and cost effectiveness.
The county department currently serves 3,900 children and families, said department Director Julie Paik.
A third to one half of the families and children served are on welfare. The goal of the department is to get these families financially self-sufficient.
