San Miguel's Downtown Landscape Day is coming up

In 2012, the Courtside Cellars wine production facility at the north end of San Miguel and the ranch along the river there were both purchased by E. & J. Gallo Winery. The family-oriented company encourages employees to participate in their local communities, and a group of them came to help with our January Downtown Landscape Day.

Thank you to all who helped; it is always greatly appreciated as it enhances our downtown.

The next Landscape Day is this Saturday from 8:30 to 10:30 a.m. Bring your own tools and water and meet at the Coffee Station or look for the yellow-vested gardeners.

Most of the garden plots are adopted, but there are still some orphans. For information, contact Mike Sanders at 805-712-9120 or see him at the San Miguel Mercantile.

Historical markers

The San Miguel History Project has prepared the first plaques to be put on historical buildings and sites in town, and plans are being made to set them in the spring.

The design reflects the mission bell with information and, when available, pictures of the original buildings. The History Group is asking building/business owners to help by paying for their plaque.

The buildings are all on a “Walking Tour” brochure that was completed last year. For information or to offer help with the programs, call Laverne Buckman at 805-467-3467.

School update

Lillian Larsen School students are collecting Box Tops for Education with a goal of $1,000. If you purchase items with these box tops, please share them by taking them to the school office, mailing them to Lillian Larsen School, 1601 L St., San Miguel, CA 93451, or sending them along with students.

The San Miguel District School Board meets Thursday at 6:30 p.m. at Lillian Larsen School. Agenda and school information is available at www.sanmiguelschools.org.
