Visit SLO mosque; learn about Islam
An open house planned for Saturday at Mosque of Nasreen in San Luis Obispo will introduce the public to Islamic beliefs and practices and the local Muslim community. Hosted by the Islamic Society of San Luis Obispo County and the Muslim Students Association at Cal Poly, the event will take place from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at 1136 Walnut St.
“Islam 101” presentations will be held in the main prayer hall at 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. A presentation addressing Islam’s perspective on violence and terrorism is scheduled for 1 p.m. Question-andanswer sessions will follow each presentation, and tours of the mosque will be offered before and after the presentations.
The event is supported by Cuesta College’s Muslim Journeys program, developed by the National Endowment for the Humanities and the American Library Association to address the American public’s need and desire for resources about Muslim beliefs and practices, according to a recent news release.
