Another SLO County official takes job in Guadalupe

Gary Hoving, former chief deputy with the San Luis Obispo County Sheriff’s Office, has been named interim director of public safety for the city of Guadalupe.

He will have responsibility for both the police and fire departments. The police department has 10 sworn officers and two non-sworn office staff. The fire department has three full-time fire captains and 11 paid on-call firefighters.

Hoving will be paid $37.20 per hour. The City Council is expected to approve his employment at its Feb. 12 meeting. He will fill a vacancy created by the retirement of former police Chief George Mitchell.

Hoving is the second San Luis Obispo County official to take a position this month in Guadalupe. San Luis Obispo City Councilman Andrew Carter recently announced his resignation in order to take a full-time job as city administrator of Guadalupe.
