Development at Marsh and Nipomo streets in SLO to break ground

A new development called the Marsh Street Commons, a mixed-use project that includes 12 residential units and 8,591 square feet of commercial space on the corner of Marsh and Nipomo streets in downtown San Luis Obispo, will break ground this week.

The developer, Mangano Homes, plans to build the commercial space on the ground floor topped with four two-bedroom residential lofts facing Marsh Street and eight small single-family homes that would be accessed by Nipomo Street.

The project is described as contemporary Craftsman.

Demolition of the existing buildings, one-story cinder-block structures that are vacant, will begin soon, with construction expected to begin this spring.

The development's four lofts will range in size from 1,435 square feet to 1,630 square feet.

The eight three-bedroom homes will range from 1,623 square feet to 1,869 square feet. The homes would be built behind the commercial and loft building.

A groundbreaking celebration will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at the site.
