The City Council unanimously named the city’s corporation yard after Mayor Dave Romero on Tuesday to honor his contributions to the city as both an employee and an elected leader.
Romero announced in June that he planned to retire from his role on the council.
Romero worked for 36 years a the city’s director of public works prior to serving eight years as a councilman and eight years as mayor. “Mayor Romero is known for common sense and honesty, always making decisions with the best interests of San Luis Obispo uppermost in his heart,” stated the staff report.
Public works staff initiated the request to honor Romero with the yard dedication — it is now called the “David F. Romero Corporation Yard.”
