San Luis Coastal school district has new superintendent

The San Luis Coastal school board has selected Eric Prater to lead the district as superintendent.

A three-year contract will be finalized at a school board meeting Tuesday.

Prater, the superintendent of the Byron Union School District in Contra Costa County, was selected from a pool of 34 candidates.

School board President Walter Millar and members Mark Buchman and Kathryn Eisdendrath-Rogers visited the Byron district July 1 to speak with officials and interview people in that community.

Prater is a graduate of St. Mary's College of California with a background in economic and organizational leadership. He has a doctorate in organizational management from the University of LaVerne. He is married with three sons, according to the Byron school district's website.

Prater begins with San Luis Coastal Unified School District on Aug. 1 at an annual salary of $170,000.
