San Gabriel Elementary School in Atascadero to remain closed indefinitely
San Gabriel Elementary School in Atascadero will remain closed at least through Monday as investigators continue looking into threatening letters and a suspicious device left on campus Friday.
The school was evacuated before the start of classes Friday morning and remained closed the rest of the day.
Law enforcement has requested additional time to complete their investigation, according to a press release posted to the Atascadero Unified School District website Sunday. School will be held at other school sites in the district until the investigation is complete.
On Monday, preschool and kindergarten will be held at Santa Rosa Academic Academy; first through third grades will be held at Santa Margarita Elementary and fourth through sixth grades will be held at San Benito Elementary, according to the district.
San Gabriel parents were to receive direct communication from the district regarding transportation.
School officials are working with law enforcement to figure out when students and staff might safely return to San Gabriel.
