A helicopter was circling Pismo Beach on Tuesday morning, appearing to fly low over the trees and ocean.

But it wasn’t responding to an incident at the beach — it was part of a training for responders and lifeguards.

According to Molly Smith, clerical worker for the California Highway Patrol air operations division in Paso Robles, the helicopter departed this morning as part of a continuous training to keep skills current.

A Cal Fire spokesperson also told The Tribune on Tuesday morning that the training included lifeguards at the beach.

Smith said she believed the training was scheduled to continue through Tuesday morning, but did not provide an exact timeline.

As of around 11:30 a.m., the helicopter was on its way back toward the North County, according to Flightradar24.
