A large oak tree fell across a lane of Highway 101 just north of the Cuesta Grade on Tuesday afternoon, slowing traffic to a crawl.

The tree fell at about 1:41 p.m., blocking the No. 1 lane and some of the No. 2 lane of northbound Highway 101, according to the California Highway Patrol traffic report page.

A semi truck stopped behind the tree at about 1:48 p.m., unable to pass.

Smaller vehicles were able to use the No. 1 lane to pass the tree, the CHP said.

Crews were working on removing the tree as of 2:23 p.m.

Traffic was at a stand-still or slow on the northbound lanes stretching back to Old Stage Coach Road as of Tuesday afternoon, according to the Caltrans QuickMap.
