11 new CA restaurants get Michelin stars. These SLO County spots kept theirs
Looking for world-class dining in San Luis Obispo? Two local restaurants enjoy Michelin star status.
Michelin Guide California unveiled its latest ratings in a ceremony in San Diego on Wednesday, June 24, spotlighting a total of 83 starred restaurants.
Two restaurants in California obtained three-star status for the first time, Michelin Guide officials said, while one California eatery gained two Michelin stars and eight were awarded single Michelin stars.
“California continues to impress our Inspectors with its diversity of cuisines and culinary approaches at all levels,” Michelin Guide officials said in a June 24 news release.
Here’s where to find SLO County’s most “sought-after restaurants,” according to Michelin Guide California:
How does Michelin Guide California work?
Michelin Guide California said it rates restaurants based on five criteria: quality of ingredients; mastery of flavor and cooking techniques; personality of the chef in the cuisine; harmony of flavors and consistency between visits.
The guide awards restaurants one to three Michelin stars.
A single star means that the restaurant offers “high-quality cooking” that’s “worth a stop,” the Michelin Guide said, while two stars indicate “excellent cooking.”
Three-star restaurants serve up “exceptional cuisine worth a special journey,” Michelin Guide officials said.
The Michelin Guide’s Green Star program recognizes restaurants at “the forefront of the industry” in terms of sustainable practices.
“They hold themselves accountable for both their ethical and environmental standards, and work with sustainable producers and suppliers to avoid waste and reduce or even remove plastic and other non-recyclable materials from their supply chain,” the Michelin Guide said.
Which SLO County restaurants have Michelin stars?
Since 2021, two restaurants in San Luis Obispo County have enjoyed Michelin star status.
Both Paso Robles restaurants retained their single stars in the guide’s latest iteration.
Six Test Kitchen first earned a Michelin star rating for its high-quality cooking in 2021, becoming the first restaurant in Paso Robles to do so.
The eatery at 3075 Blue Rock Road, Suite B, in Paso Robles also was awarded a Michelin green star in 2021.
Six Test Kitchen regained its green star status in 2026.
“Dry-aged fish and meats, seasonal produce and delicious sauces come together in a breezy space with soaring ceilings, charcoal-tinted walls, metal edges and a stunning wood counter that wraps around the kitchen,” Michelin Guide California said.
The restaurant, which holds 12 diners at a time, accepts reservations for 6 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. seatings Wednesday through Saturday.
The Restaurant at Justin, 11680 Chimney Rock Road in Paso Robles, also earned a Michelin star in 2021 It’s held onto its one-star rating for six consecutive years.
From 2021 to 2025, The Restaurant at Justin also received Michelin’s green star award.
Described as a “lush retreat” at Justin Vineyards & Winery, The Restaurant at Justin “champions local product sourced nearby and from the property’s own 150-tree orchard, vegetable and herb gardens and apiary,” Michelin Guide California said.
The “seasonal multi-course dinner testing menu” is paired with “award-winning wine list,” the farm-to-table restaurant said.
