Construction on Paso Robles’ Riverside Avenue Pedestrian Improvements Project starts June 1, 2026, spanning Riverside Avenue from 17th to 24th streets.

Paso Robles residents will see their votes at work this summer after the city announced sidewalk upgrades near the California Mid-State Fairgrounds.

Construction is scheduled to begin on Riverside Avenue from 17th to 24th streets on Monday, the city said in a news release on Thursday.

Coined the Riverside Avenue Pedestrian Improvements Project, the project aims to upgrade all existing curb ramps along the corridor as well as constructing sidewalks in places where they are missing entirely.

“Upgrading curb ramps and improving overall roadway conditions will enhance pedestrian safety, accessibility and the overall user experience during large community events, while supporting year-round mobility for all users,” the release said.

The project is scheduled in two phases to avoid disruptions during the heavily-trafficked Mid-State Fair that runs Wednesday, July 15, through Sunday, July 26.

According to the news release, curb ramp and sidewalk improvements will start June 1 and will be completed by July 10 to ensure safe and accessible pedestrian travel during the fair.

Phase 2 is scheduled to start on Aug. 3 for remaining roadway grind-and-overlay work after the festivities and traffic of the fair have passed.

Funding for the project comes from a Community Development Block Grant of about $333,200, with the remaining being pulled from Measures J-20 and I-24, both voter-approved supplemental sales tax revenues, the news release said.
