Celebrating Memorial Day in SLO County? Find ceremonies, concerts and more
Looking for Memorial Day events? San Luis Obispo County will have plenty of things to do over the long holiday weekend.
Memorial Day, which falls on Monday, May 25, is dedicated to honoring military service members who died while serving their country.
The federal holiday also marks the unofficial start of summer in California.
Here are some of the events in store in SLO County:
See antique tractors, trains and more
The Best Of The West Antique Equipment Show returns to the Santa Margarita Ranch on Memorial Day weekend with antique tractors, engines, cars, steam trains, planes and more.
Highlights include train rides, a tractor parade, military vehicles and blacksmith demonstrations.
The event runs 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Friday, May 22, through Sunday, May 24.
Admission costs $15 for a day pass, or $30 for a weekend pass. Children ages 5 and under get in free.
Fun at Avila Valley farms
Gopher Glen Apple Farm is reopening for the season at 2899 See Canyon Road in San Luis Obispo.
On Saturday, May 23, through Monday, May 25, the farm will be offering free hard cider and fresh cider samples from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Kids crafts will be available on Saturday and Sunday.
The Avila Valley Barn, 560 Avila Beach Drive San Luis Obispo, will host a Berry Bonanza event during Memorial Day weekend with u-pick olallieberries, tractor rides and live music.
See classic cars in Paso Robles
About 300 cars and trucks will be on display at the Golden State Classics Car Show in Paso Robles.
The event runs 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, May 23, at Downtown City Park at 11th and Park streets.
Other highlights at the car show, which is free to the public, include music, food trucks, a raffle, a Manufacturer Row and model building for kids.
Memorial Day ceremony in Atascadero
The Atascadero Veterans Memorial Foundation will hold its annual Memorial Day ceremony on Monday, May 25.
The event runs from 11 a.m. to noon at the Faces of Freedom Memorial, 8024 Portola Road in Atascadero.
In addition to a military plane flyover by the Estrella Warbirds, the hour-long program will feature speaker Dick Mason, a wreath presentation, the national anthem and a performance of “Taps.”
The Kiwanis Club of Atascadero will host a barbecue after the ceremony.
Remembrance ceremony at SLO veterans museum
The Central Coast Veterans Memorial Museum, 801 Grand Ave. in San Luis Obispo, is set to host a Memorial Day remembrance ceremony at 11 a.m. Monday, followed by a barbecue lunch at noon.
In addition, the museum will hold an open house from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday.
Memorial Day ceremony on Pismo Beach Pier
A Memorial Day ceremony will be held at 11 a.m. Monday on the Pismo Beach Pier.
The family-friend event is open to the public, organizers said.
Bands jam at Nipomo golf course
Unfinished Business, Red Oak Country and Unfinished with the Beatles will perform as part of the Memorial Day Jam on Monday, May 25.
The free event will run from 1 to 4 p.m. at Blacklake Golf Resort, 1490 Golf Course Lane in Nipomo.
Food and beverage will be available for purchase.
