Forget balls — dogs will be out catching waves at Pismo Beach this weekend.

On Saturday, the World Dog Surfing Championships Exhibition Tour will come to Pismo Beach, bringing together a lineup of “the world’s top dog surfing teams” as they compete alongside local canines.

According to a news release, the six invited pros will compete in their own showcase heat while local participants can compete in community heats. The event will also feature an informal awards showcase, meet-the-dogs interactions, a dog beach fashion contest and dog adoptions in partnership with local rescues.

The event is scheduled for 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on the north side of the Pismo Beach Pier. Admission is free and open to the public.

All dogs attending must be kept on leash at all times in compliance with city of Pismo Beach rules, with the exception of dogs actively competing in the water, according to the release.
