Woman killed, toddler injured in crash on SLO County highway
A woman was killed and a toddler injured in a major crash on Highway 166 just at the San Luis Obispo County line on Tuesday night.
According to a Santa Barbara County Fire Department post on X, a single-vehicle crash was reported on westbound Highway 166 near Rinconada Ranch at about 6:44 p.m.
The vehicle — a Ford Fusion — sustained major rollover damage as it traveled approximately 20 feet off the road, according to the CHP’s traffic incident page.
The adult female driver of the vehicle was pronounced dead at the scene while a 3-year-old child was taken by ambulance to Marian Medical Center, Santa Barbara County Fire said.
People were urged to drive cautiously in the area. Further details were not immediately available.
It’s the second fatal crash along the remote stretch of highway in the past month.
On March 25, a Kern County resident was killed when their vehicle crossed into oncoming traffic and crashed into a commercial big-rig.
It was also the second notable crash on that highway this week, after a pair of big-rigs collided late Monday night, shutting down the road until Tuesday morning.
