A crash between a military vehicle and a semi-truck slowed traffic and blocked a lane on the Cuesta Grade on Thursday afternoon.

At 2:34 p.m., a crash was reported involving a Humvee and a red semi-truck on southbound Highway 101 near TV Tower Road, according to the California Highway Patrol Incident page.

A reporting party said the military vehicle was facing the wrong way in the right lane and the semi-truck had gone through a guardrail and onto an embankment along the side of the highway, CHP said.

An ambulance was en route to the collision as of 2:36 p.m, and a tow truck was also requested shortly after.

As of 2:41, the No. 3 lane on Highway 101 was blocked so that units could respond to the crash. The lane was expected to be closed until at least 6:30 p.m., according to a Cal Fire post on X.

The collision resulted in minor injuries, according to the CHP page, but one patient was being transported to Adventist Health Sierra Vista hospital in San Luis Obispo.

Traffic was backed up for a short stretch beginning at TV Tower Road on the Cuesta Grade, according to the Caltrans QuickMap.
