Hwy. 46 roadwork to slow traffic in SLO County. How long will drivers see delays?

Roadwork will soon bring traffic to a halt on a major highway near the northeastern border of San Luis Obispo County.

The California Department of Transportation plans to continue construction on a stretch of Highway 46, the agency said in a news release.

Here’s what to know:

When and where is Highway 46 roadwork?

Drivers going both directions on Highway 46 east of Cholame will encounter one-way reversing traffic control for two consecutive nights.

The traffic control will be in effect from 6 p.m. Tuesday, March 16, to 6 a.m., Wednesday, March 17, and from 6 p.m. on Wednesday, March 17, to 6 a.m. on Thursday, March 18, the release said.

How long will construction delay traffic?

Travelers should expect delays of up to 20 minutes while crews are working on the highway construction project, according to the release.

Caltrans urged drivers to “please allow for extra time” as they travel through the corridor, the state road agency said.
