Long stretch of Highway 41 in SLO County to shut down. Here’s when and where
A long section of Highway 41 is closing overnight so Caltrans can complete repair work months after a rockslide damaged the roadway.
In December, a major rockslide blocked half the highway on the way to Fresno in northern San Luis Obispo County.
Now, the California Department of Transportation said, crews are finishing the final phase of fixes.
Here’s what to know:
When and where will Highway 41 close in SLO County?
Highway 41 will be closed from north of the Cholame Y interchange to Highway 33 from 8 p.m. Thursday, March 19, to 8 a.m. on Friday, March 20, according to Caltrans.
During the overnight closure, crews will move a 400-feet concrete barrier and rock fence to the shoulder “to serve as an ongoing barrier to any future rockfall,” the agency said in a news release.
Caltrans will also take away temporary lane striping and traffic control devices, as well as reinstall former permanent striping on this stretch on Highway 41.
Which detours can I take to avoid roadwork?
Travelers can avoid roadwork by taking Highway 46 and Highway 33, according to the release.
The detour is expected to add an extra 30 minutes of travel time, Caltrans said.
“Message and directional signs will alert travelers in advance of the full closure,” the agency said.
