Injured ATV rider airlifted from rollover crash at Oceano Dunes

An injured rider was airlifted from the Oceano Dunes on Saturday after the ATV they were driving rolled over and crashed.

California Highway Patrol’s Coastal Division Air Operations responded to the rollover at 6 p.m. on Saturday, sending its H-70 helicopter to the Oceano Dunes State Vehicular Recreation, according to a news release.

During an assessment by paramedics it was determined the patient sustained injuries that required transport to a trauma center, the release said.

According to the release, the patient was later transported to Sierra Vista Regional Medical Center.

The department advised ATV riders to wear protective gear while operating the off-highway vehicles.
