If you’ve been wanting to head to downtown SLO for some holiday shopping — but aren’t wanting to pay for parking — you’re in luck.

The city of San Luis Obispo is bringing back free parking in downtown’s parking garages for select days through the next two months to help encourage shoppers and visitors to frequent the area for holiday shopping and activities.

According to a Chamber of Commerce news release, the free parking will be available in the city’s three garages at 842 Palm St., 919 Palm St. and 871 Marsh St. on the following days:

  • Thanksgiving Day through Sunday, Nov. 30
  • Every Sunday in December (Dec. 7, 14, 21 and 28)
  • Christmas Eve, Christmas Day and Dec. 26
  • New Year’s Eve and Day (Dec. 31 and Jan. 1)

Free holiday trolley also back in downtown SLO

The city will also offer free rides on the Downtown Trolley, decked out for the holidays, on Thursday from 5 to 9 p.m. and Fridays and Saturdays from noon to 8 p.m. With it riders can hop onto the trolley as they travel between downtown shops, restaurants and hotels.

That lasts from Friday, Nov. 28, through Dec. 27, according to the release.

“We are thrilled to offer free trolley rides this year in partnership with Know How To Go,” deputy director of mobility services Jennifer Rice said in a city news release. “This partnership makes it easier than ever for our community to get downtown, shop local, and enjoy the holiday magic together.”

Trolley routes are available online at slocity.org/visiting/transportation/trolley-schedule call 805-541-2877.
