Police investigating suspicious death on Highway 166

The California Highway Patrol is investigating a suspicious death reported on a Central Coast highway on Thursday night.

CHP identified the alleged victim as a Hispanic male between 30 and 40 years old, CHP Coastal Division spokesperson Jordan Richards told The Tribune.

According to a news release from CHP, the agency launched the investigation after officers responded to the area near Highway 166 and Suey Creek Road east of Santa Maria around 11:34 p.m. Thursday night.

The investigation resulted in a highway closure early Friday morning, Richards said.

CHP’s Coastal Division was actively investigating the incident as of Friday afternoon, the release said.

CHP did not provide information about the suspected cause of death.
